What is a polymer flocculant?

Polyacrylamide is generally referred to as a polymer flocculant (English: Polymer flocculant). It is a polymer compound that aggregates and settles impurities and particles dispersed in liquid phases. It is widely used in water treatment (such as purifying sewage, reducing COD, and reducing pollution) as well as in processes such as sedimentation, filtration, and clarification in other media.

1. General classification: Flocculants are mainly classified into organic polymer flocculants and inorganic polymer flocculants, etc.

   • Organic polymer flocculants are mainly based on polyacrylamide, among which polyacrylamide and its copolymers account for most of the market share of organic polymer flocculants.

   • Inorganic polymer flocculants are basically dominated by polyaluminum chloride and ferrous sulfate. Moreover, polymer flocculants generally have the functions of clarification and purification, sedimentation promotion, sludge dewatering, papermaking auxiliaries, and filtration promotion.

2. Applications:
   (1) Flocculants are mainly used in sewage treatment, mining, coal, brewing, food, monosodium glutamate factories, mineral processing, paper, medical treatment, stone processing, oil fields, etc.
   (2) Polymer flocculants are mainly used in the treatment of domestic sewage, industrial sewage, and special water quality (such as oily sludge wastewater, printing and dyeing paper wastewater, metallurgical wastewater, wastewater containing radioactive substances, wastewater containing toxic heavy metals such as Pb and Cr, and fluoride-containing wastewater, etc.). In addition, they are also widely used in precision forging, oil exploration, leather making, metallurgy, and papermaking.
   (3) Polymer flocculants are mainly used in the purification of domestic drinking water, industrial sewage treatment, and the treatment of special water quality (such as oily sludge wastewater, printing and dyeing paper wastewater, steelmaking wastewater, wastewater containing radioactive substances, wastewater containing toxic heavy metals such as lead and chromium, and fluoride-containing wastewater, etc.). In addition, they are also widely used in precision forging, oil exploration, leather making, metallurgy, paper making, etc.
